B2: Would I Know Culture Shock If I Saw It?

How do we know when someone is experiencing culture shock? People may experience culture shock differently, but some of the common signs are: 

  • Experiencing changes in eating or sleeping habits

  • Feeling homesick

  • Expressing frustration with the new culture

  • Feeling irritable, sad, or depressed

  • Feeling frequently frustrated

  • Feeling self-doubt or a sense of failure

  • Complaining frequently about illness

  • Withdrawing from friends, other people, or activities
