B3: What Do I Know About TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families)?

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) is a federal assistance program, commonly known as welfare. TANF provides temporary financial assistance to families who meet certain requirements based on factors such as income and family size.

In Connecticut, TANF funds Safety Net Services, Employment Services, and other programs to support needy families. It also funds the Temporary Family Assistance (TFA) program, a 21-month cash assistance program. Participants in this program must be involved in job training and/or a college degree program while receiving assistance.
