B2: Where Would I Find Healthy Food Options?

Many factors affect the ability of newcomers to maintain a healthy diet in a new country. These factors have to do with income, language, culture, and knowledge about life in the U.S. CNs with an understanding of these factors can help newcomers in culturally sensitive ways make healthy and economical choices.

Most communities have nutritional food support programs for low-income people. Newcomers who cannot afford good food should be told about these programs.  In the Hartford community, there are many food pantries and food assistance locations available for individuals and families in need.

The next critical incident will look at ways you can address dietary concerns with your newcomer family. After completing this, the next sections will discuss domestic violence.
